If you are a law-abiding gun owner, it’s a good idea to have a self-defense protection plan in place. It’s similar to owning a fire extinguisher; you hope that you never need one, but it gives you peace of mind that you have it on hand in case the worst does happen.
Generally, these self-defense protection plans pay for the cost of an attorney and/or any legal fees you may incur after using force in self-defense. Having this kind of coverage in place is far better than having to come up with thousands of dollars on your own at a moment’s notice should you be forced to defend yourself in court for defending yourself or others against criminal allegations and charges.
Some of these plans offer unlimited representation for both civil and criminal court, while others provide more limited amounts of reimbursement. You should make sure you read the fine print so that you know exactly what’s covered by each plan.
There are many different companies offering these kinds of services. Some are insurance companies while others provide access to an attorney on retainer. Some of these plans are much cheaper than others and you can usually find a good deal by shopping around.
Some of these plans also exclude cases involving domestic violence or any cases that involve brandishing a weapon, which could have significant legal consequences for the member. This can be problematic for people who have a legal right to carry and use a firearm in self defense.
